In former, aging, National Football League players, fluid-attenuated inversion recovery scans showed increased total and deep white matter hyperintensity volumes, while diffusion tensor imaging showed decreased fractional anisotropy reflecting white matter disruption, and this is associated with cognitive impairments and depression. -
