The rapidly emerging, highly transmissable Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 underscores the importance of vaccinating healthcare workers and the public in general.

In the sweeping reevaluation of the healthcare system that is coming amid the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting valuable healthcare workers from patient attacks seems like an idea whose time has finally come.

The dismissal of the suit is being appealed, but the action sends a shot across the bow to healthcare workers and others who plan to challenge mandated vaccination programs in hospitals.

OSHA analysis determined that healthcare workers are in “grave danger” from COVID-19, but did not broach the controversial subject of vaccine mandates some hospitals are adopting.

Despite increasing vaccinations, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) could argue that a standard now would protect workers in the next pandemic, as CDC guidelines were ignored and politicized when the COVID-19 hit in the United States in 2020.

CDC: "These reports represent a reporting rate of seven [blood clot reactions] per 1 million vaccinations among women 18 through 49 years old, and a rate of 0.9 per 1 million vaccinations among women 50 years and older. For all women, this is a rare adverse event."
