New alliance promotes occ health and safety
Two more occupational health and safety entities have formed a partnership to jointly promote best practices and encourage employers to develop and use health and safety management systems and effective prevention strategies.
The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and NIOSH signed a partnership agreement in June.
"We value this opportunity to partner with NIOSH to support and encourage research, training, and other initiatives," AIHA president
Roy Buchan, DrPH, CIH, states, adding that he hopes the collaboration raises awareness of the role of occupational health in American workplaces.
AIHA and NIOSH will provide outreach, communication, and professional development opportunities to promote worker health and safety by:
- developing and disseminating information on worker health and safety at appropriate conferences and media outlets, including each organization’s web site;
- participating at conferences, meetings, and other key events where occupational and environmental health and safety issues are proactively addressed;
- advancing the effectiveness of occupational and environmental health and safety research, and promoting and facilitating the transfer of research results to practice in preventing occupational illnesses and injuries;
- strengthening recruiting efforts for students to enter occupational and environmental health graduate and undergraduate training programs.
