Consent forms key when preregistration is issue
"How does your access department get consent forms signed when the patient is preregistered?" asks Liz Kehrer, CHAM, manager of patient access at Centegra Health System in McHenry, IL. "Where are the consent signatures being obtained?" Kehrer adds. "Is the patient presenting at a quick-check-in desk or going straight to the department where the service is being performed?"
And if patients are reporting directly to the treatment area, which is often being done to expedite the process, who collects those signatures? At her facility, Kehrer notes, personnel in other departments have been less than enthusiastic about performing the task, even though it’s part of improving customer service. "They’re resistant," she says. "They say, It’s not our job. Access should do that.’"
