Although corporate budgets remain tight, there are some proven strategies you can use to maximize the dollars allotted for your wellness department. Try some of these ideas, and see which are most effective in your workplace:
· Always try to tie into existing company structures. Try be a part of existing corporate staff and safety meetings, rather than standing alone. Combine your health assessment with regulatory testing. Tie into issues that are important to the company.
· Draw a connection between wellness and business success. Do employees feel more productive? Healthier? Are health care risks and costs going down? Point out to management that this can give your company a competitive advantage.
· Provide management with regular reports to show the value of your program. Even if you are in the early stages of a program, conduct a survey to show it is really popular with the employees. Pick your spots; too many reports can turn management off. Generally, you should provide a six-month report and an annual report.
· Try to leverage your outside vendors. If there is one vendor you really trust, and they provide a wide variety of programs, ask if they will give you a volume discount.
· Pay attention to your biometric screening results. Use research to extrapolate improved health into an improved bottom line.
