ADA recommends aspirin for diabetes patients
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has published new recommendations for aspirin usage for primary and secondary prevention of heart attack for both classes of diabetes patients. Diabetes patients are often at risk for heart disease based on their condition, with slightly more than 50% of mortality attributed to cardiovascular disease and heart attack, according to the association.

Secondary prevention levels include patients with a history of myocardial infarction, a bypass procedure, stroke or ischemia, peripheral vascular disease, claudication, and/or angina.
The ADA adds that patients who are not recommended for aspirin therapy include those under 30 with no attendant risk factors and those with any aspirin allergies. Specific therapy should be tailored by the patient and physician, it notes. t
