JCAHO taking a step away from subjectivity
The Oakbrook Terrace, IL-based Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), effective Jan. 1, 1998, will begin using laptops in the survey process. JCAHO notes that surveyors will not use laptops during the actual survey process but will enter the data from their findings in the evening. Such technology is already being used for hospital and long-term care surveys.
Training began for home care surveyors in October. JCAHO notes that the actual score of the standards will now be computer-generated based on the scoring found in the 1997-98 Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Home Care.
