HFMA launches compliance officer forum

Help is on the way for the growing number of corporate compliance officers newly hired or appointed to stand guard against health care fraud and abuse.

The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) in Westbrook, IL, has created a special interest group for members with responsibilities as compliance officers. The Compliance Officers Forum, which is being launched on a trial basis, will offer compliance-related information through audio-teleconferences, periodic faxes on important issues, and monthly mailings.

"Because the compliance function is relatively new to health care, compliance officers have been starved for a single resource to turn to for sound guidance and support," HFMA said in a statement. "The new forum will serve the escalating population of professionals whose positions are being transformed to include compliance management."

HFMA members will be able to join the forum for an additional fee of $75 annually. HFMA will decide after June 1 whether to move ahead with the forum based on membership interest.
