NCQA: Reporting plans make largest gains
The fourth annual State of Managed Care Quality report issued by the Washington, DC-based National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) contains good news for plan members: Across every single clinical quality measure NCQA examines, and in every region of the country, reporting plans made their largest gains ever in 1999. The 446 health plan products submitting data to the 2000 edition of NCQA’s "Quality Compass," a database of managed care information covering 51 million people.
"In terms of quality, 1999 was by far the best year in the history of managed care," notes Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA president. "But when we look at care for certain populations like people with diabetes or depression, it’s obvious that there is still room for improvement."
