How to take the exam
About eighty assessment centers throughout the United States, most of them located in H&R Block offices, offer the Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management examination on computer. Testing at those centers is scheduled at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
There are no application deadlines, and candidates who meet the requirements for the exam may submit their applications and fees at any time.
The examination fee for members of American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) or another society sponsored by the American Hospital Association is $175. Nonmembers must pay a $250 fee. Payment of the examination fee entitles a candidate to take the examination and receive a score report. Candidates should follow the instructions on the CPHRM Web site (www.ashrm.org) precisely because the examiners will return any applications they consider incomplete and keep $50 of the examination fee as a processing charge.
Candidates who do submit complete applications will have 90 days from the date they receive a confirmation notice to schedule their examination time by calling a toll-free number listed in the notice.
Upon successful completion of the exam, candidates receive a certificate of achievement and other recognition of the certification and may use the designation CPHRM on letterhead, business cards, and other professional communications, in directory listings, and in signature.
To obtain a copy of the Candidate Handbook and an application for the CPHRM certification examination, go to the ASHRM Web site or call Applied Measurement Professionals, the Lenexa, KS-based firm that is handling the application and testing process, at (913) 541-0400.
