Interested in how to implement the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization’s new pain management standards? Information is available at a series of one-day seminars on the topic. "Essential Elements of Effective Pain Management: A Standards-Based Approach" will provide participants with a greater understanding of the standards, implementation strategies, and cultural, communications and com- plimentary medicine aspects of the topic.
Participants will also receive sample pain assessment tools and information on how to calculate the effectiveness of pain management at their organizations through indicators or performance measures.
Seminars will be held Wednesday, Nov. 1 in East Elmhurst, NY; Friday, Nov. 17 in Hebron, KY; and Friday, Dec. 1 in Mesa, AZ. For more information or to register, contact the Joint Commission at (630) 792-5800.
Those attending the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s (IHI) national forum in San Fran-cisco Dec. 5-8 have access to several special workshops taking place concurrently. Among them are the "Sixth International Scientific Symposium on Improving the Quality and Value of Health Care," which allows participants from around the world to share their peer review experiences. Another forum, "QI Around the World," will feature informal presentations from participants about health care activities in various countries.
Also, The National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) will run its quality improvement workshop for the fourth year. Topics include medical error reduction, pain management, getting physicians and staff involved in quality initiatives, and improving patient outcomes. Ambulatory surgery centers interested in accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) can learn more about the process at several seminars scheduled for this fall. The step-by-step educational programs outline how to achieve accreditation and include information on AAAHC standards and how to comply with them, what accreditation entails, and seminars with actual surveyors.
