HCFA proposes new Part B rules
HCFA proposes new Part B rules
The Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) has proposed new Medicare Part B payment rules. Those rules, posted July 17 in
the Federal Register, include refinement to resource-based practice expense relative value units (RVUs) and the geographic practice cost indices.
Other changes target resource-based malpractice RVUs, critical care RVUs, care oversight, and physician certification/recertification, among other things. The proposed rule also addresses the payment policy for incomplete medical direction, pulse oximetry services, outpatient therapy supervision and therapy caps, and the second five-year refinement of work RVUs for services provided beginning Jan. 1, 2002.
Comments on the proposed rule are due 60 days from July 17. For a full copy of the rule, including where to send comments, go to: www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fedreg/a000717c.html and look under "Health Care Financing Administration."
