ECRI offers review of safety devices
The June 1998 issue of Health Devices features an evaluation of 19 needlestick-prevention devices used when drawing blood or inserting a catheter. ECRI, the Plymouth Meeting, MA-based nonprofit health services research agency and publisher of Health Devices, notes that the evaluation focuses on devices categorized as blood collection needles, needle sets and tube holders; blood donor set tube holders; hemodialysis needle sets; and peripheral intravenous catheters.
Each device was subjected to ECRI's test protocol and rated primarily on performance, measured by level of safety as well as ease of use.
