JCAHO offers education videos for home care
In response to member inquiries, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations in Oakbrook Terrace, IL, has released three educational videotapes for home care agencies. The tapes are:
• Competence Assessment in Home Care;
• How to Prepare for Your Home Care Accreditation Survey;
• Home Care Performance Improvement: A Practical Guide.
The videos answer the top concerns of the Joint Commission, according to Maryanne Popovich, director of home care at the Joint Commission.
Preparing for survey top question
"How to prepare for a survey is what we would consider the most general question we receive," she says. "Those already familiar with our standards and accreditation process felt competency and performance improvement needed more explanation."
The videos cost $195 each and are available through the Joint Commission. To order, call the Joint Commission’s Customer Service Center at (708) 916-5800. t
ONS develops video seminar series
The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) has developed a six-part video series titled "Oncology Nursing Focus."
"The videos are designed for oncology nurses with 2-5 years of experience in the field and are application-oriented," says Tim Andrews, program manager for Oncology Nursing Focus. Ranging in duration from 50 to 120 minutes, the videos can merit a total of 8.8 contact hours of continuing education credit.
"We have a post-test that is included with the lesson guide," says Andrews. "If they get 12 out of the 15 questions right, they get a certificate back in the mail."
All programs to be available soon
Five of the six programs are currently available. The sixth is slated for release in the end of this month. Subjects covered in each video are:
• Symptom Management in the Home;
• Coping Skills for Caregivers;
• End-of-Life Decisions;
• Fatigue in Patients with Cancer;
• Rehabilitation and Survivorship;
• Cancer Risk Assessment and Screening.
The series costs $750. Lesson guides can be purchased for $5 per viewer. To order, contact Oncology Nursing Focus at (800) 863-8814. t
