End-of-life care is impetus for new grant program
Stimulate advances in end-of-life care and provide a responsive voice to issues facing terminally ill persons and their families. That's the goal of a new grant program recently announced by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in Princeton, NJ.
The $11.25 million grant program, "Community-State Partnerships to Improve End-of-Life Care," is currently accepting proposals from state organizations, universities, and ethics institutes. Because grants normally are awarded on a single basis per state, an interactive approach among groups applying is encouraged, according to the foundation. (To apply, see editor's note at end of story.)
There are two receipt-of-application deadlines for the program: one for initial funding and a subsequent deadline for implementing a program. Initial funding applications must be received by July 7, 1998. Organizations prepared to implement projects must respond by May 14, 1999, to be considered for additional funding.
Organizations can apply for up to $75,000 in initial funding for planning. Subsequent funds of up to $375,000 are available to initiate programs. Organizations prepared to implement projects need to respond by May 14, 1999 to be considered for these grants, which average $450,000. Matching contributions equaling one-third of the grant monies are expected from any group receiving funds.
