No ICD-9-CM code changes in October
In its May 13 meeting, the ICD-9-CM Coordin-ation and Maintenance Committee of the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) in Baltimore announced that there would be no changes to the ICD-9-CM effective Oct. 1, 1999, because of year 2000 preparation efforts.
Coders can continue using current ICD-9-CM code books until Oct. 1, 2000. All code changes proposed at the June 4, 1998, and Nov. 2, 1998, meetings will be considered for the next updates, which will go into effect Oct. 1, 2000.
