NIOSH to host injury research symposium
NIOSH to host injury research symposium
Hospital employees have one of the highest occupational injury rates in the U.S., prompting employers to utilize prevention strategies backed by often inconclusive efficacy research. To help provide definitive answers, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health will address the latest injury-related research and technology in an upcoming symposium.
Occupational injury researchers from all disciplines will share their findings at the National Occupational Injury Research Symposium (NOIRS) on Oct. 15-17 in Morgantown, WV.
Questions addressed will include:
• What are the latest traumatic occupational injury findings?
• What are emerging problem areas in workplace trauma?
• How is high technology being applied to occupational injury research and prevention?
• What interventions and prevention strategies do and do not work?
• What are the economic costs of occupational injuries, and how cost-effective are prevention strategies?
• What are the current and emerging research areas and disciplines?
• What are the trends in occupational injury incidence? In research tools, techniques, and methods? In prevention?
• What specific workplace risks are faced by worker populations such as: minorities, older adults, non-English-speaking, and low-literacy?
• What methods are available to assess, quantify, and compare traumatic occupational injury risks?
The symposium will consist of 15- to 20-minute oral presentations organized in multiple concurrent sessions and four-foot by eight-foot poster presentations. Attendees may apply for continuing education credits. There is no registration fee for the symposium. For a NOIRS registration booklet, call (800) 35-NIOSH.
