Antimicrobial hotline reopens for business
Infection control professionals wanting to report problems or seek information on disinfectants and sterilants can call the Antimicrobial Complaint System, which is up and running again in a new location.
Formerly based at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, the program is now operating out of Oregon State University in Corvallis. The hotline was inactive for the past year during the transition, but now is open to inquiries again at (800) 447-6349.
Funded by a grant by the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C., the toll-free telephone service operates in conjunction with the National Pesticide Telecommunications Network at Oregon State University. The service provides antimicrobial information about products (sanitizers, disinfectants, sterilants), toxicology, and environmental chemistry.
"We can provide information about product efficacy, possible toxicity from active ingredients, and registered uses," says Kristin Sands, MS, antimicrobial specialist with the program in Corvallis. "We do not recommend individual products."
The system has a database that includes all label information for products registered by the EPA, and is designed to provide both objective information to callers and forward problem reports to the agency. *
