Grants, guidelines, and more with a click of a mouse
Looking for a place that addresses quality measurement, research program notices, grant announcements, clinical guidelines, technology assessments, or outcomes?
All of these topics and more are included in the user-friendly Web site for the Rockville, MD-based Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the agency formerly known as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, at www.ahrq.gov. The home page includes an easy-to-understand index. Under the clinical information heading, visitors can find articles and reports on topics such as preventive services, outcomes studies, and clinical practice guidelines.
If you choose to look at clinical guidelines, you will be linked to the National Guidelines Clearinghouse (www.guideline.gov), a site sponsored by the agency, the American Medical Association in Chicago, and the American Association of Health Plans in Washington, DC. (For more information on the National Guidelines Clearinghouse, see Same-Day Surgery, August 1999, p. 99).
Some of the clinical guidelines that apply to same-day surgery programs address breast procedures, pain management, ophthalmology, anesthesia, and cardiovascular perioperative care for noncardiac surgery.
The Clinical Information section also includes a link to Conquest, a free database that contains 1,197 clinical performance measures, as well as information on common or costly clinical conditions. In addition, AHRQ offers publications that visitors can order through the Information Products category.
