Nebraska association offers QI analysis system
The Nebraska Association of Hospitals & Health Systems (NAHHS) is linking with the San Ramon, CA, health care benchmarking company MECON to bring on-line benchmarking to Midwestern hospitals. The relationship gives Nebraska health care facilities and NAHHS access to detailed clinical information to help reduce costs while improving quality of care and outcomes.
NAHHS maintains a statewide database of patient information from Nebraska’s 90 acute care hospitals. It collects data on inpatient discharge, outpatient, emergency room, and ambulatory surgery.
But with MECON’s help, the hospitals will be better able to mine that information. NAHHS members will access data through password-protected, secure user "nodes," and may obtain clinical outcomes analyses and quality improvement indicators. With standard or custom clinical indicators, users can drill down to patient- level data to completely analyze differences in utilization of services, assess complication and cost of care, and profile physician activity.
