• Sims Communications (Irvine, CA) said its Justmed.com subsidiary is adding daily health news content to its healthcare Web portal at www.justmed.com. The news will be provided by About.com, OnHealth.com, Salon.com, drkoop.com, and the Mayo Clinic. Sims also has launched a live medical auction on the site that will sell used and new medical equipment, products, and services to both professionals and consumers.
• Computers Unlimited (Billings, MT) has reached an agreement with Pharmaceutical Buyers (PBI; Boulder, CO) under which Computers Unlimited will be recognized as a software vendor of choice for PBI members. PBI will endorse and recommend Computers Unlimited software as part of the support services it offers its 2,000-member network. The agreement will address market segments, such as home infusion pharmacy, durable medical equipment, long term care pharmacy, and medical distribution.
• Usis Health (Austin, TX), a healthcare application service provider, has introduced an emergency program that provides healthcare professionals with portable, confidential, and medically credible patient records for verification of a patient’s health and insurance inforamtion during visits to the emergency room. The program relies on a multi-application card, called a smart card, that gives automated access to a patient’s emergency information. It is part of the Usis Global e-Health Management Solution. The program’s file is created individually or with a healthcare professional and includes demographic, administrative, and clinical information about the patient. • Simione Central (Atlanta) has named Charles Mead chief science and technology officer. Mead will report directly to CEO Bruce Dewey and will be responsible for continuity and consistency in the choice of technology throughout the company’s operations, whether in the development of software systems or in the infrastructure and tools to be used within the company. Mead will work with Senior Vice President of Development Jack Arthur in the seamless integration of the best features of Simione’s many software products.
• 3M (St. Paul, MN) has added a new Web component on its site for 3M Home Health Systems Information. The site can be accessed directly at www.3M.com/hhs. Users can obtain background on a variety of 3M Datacron Products for use by home healthcare agencies and learn which tradeshows 3M will be attending. Users can also access a password-protected portion of the site and download software updates.
