Note to health care providers: A score of 7 or greater for women and 8 or greater for men suggests that counseling about the risks of alcohol misuse may be warranted. Patients who score 16-19 may require follow-up monitoring. Those who score 20 or greater are likely to need an alcohol assessment and treatment.
