FAMED challenges HCFA’s CB demonstration project in FL
POLK COUNTY, FL The Florida Association of Medical Equipment Dealers (FAMED) and several Florida companies filed a lawsuit in a Florida federal court last week challenging the procedure by which the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA; Baltimore) has implemented the Medicare Part B competitive pricing demonstration project in Polk County, FL.
Meanwhile, HCFA announced last week it will issue its Request For Proposal for its competitive pricing demonstration project on Feb. 10 with a bidders’ conference to follow on Feb. 23 in Lakeland, FL. This follows an announcement by HCFA that the project would not be fully implemented until November because of continued questions and problems with its bid packages. But last week it was suggested that HCFA’s schedule for implementing the demonstration project may shift yet again and be fully implemented earlier than November. Part B suppliers expect clarification to come this week.
