New safety needle to hit market in late 1998
NMT Group, a small company based in Glasgow, Scotland, UK, plans to launch
its Zero-Stik safety syringe in the United States late in 1998. NMT currently is searching for joint venture partners with which to market its product.
The Zero-Stik is unique in that it automatically retracts the needle inside the plastic syringe casing after injection. The syringe is based on a design by a Scottish engineer who developed
the deliberately nonreusable syringes for use in developing nations at the request of the World Health Organization. The needle automatically retracts after completion of the dose, unlike other safety syringes currently on the market.
