Title: EMS Programs Coordinator
Direct Supervisor: Chief, Emergency Services
Supervises: Paramedic Coordinator: EMS Instructors
Position Summary:
The individual in this position is responsible for overseeing all educational and administrative functions related to the EMS activities of Providence Hospital and Medical Centers. In this capacity, the incumbent is responsible for direction of the EMS Institute and providing staff support to various EMS functions including, but not limited to, attending meetings, correspondence and other tasks, as may be delegated. This individual works closely with the Medical and Nursing Directors to ensure that the Providence Hospital participation in the system is in a manner consistent with the state law and policies, procedures, and dictates prescribed by the local Medical Control Authorities.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates personal commitment to the core values of advocacy for the poor, inventiveness to infinity, justice, mercy, quality service, respect for human dignity and simplicity through active involvement in the organization's quality improvement process.
2. Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.
3. Conducts EMS educational programs including initial and continuing education, in compliance with all applicable State of Michigan laws and regulations.
4. Provide staff support to various Providence EMS activities. This includes participation in meetings, Medical Control Boards, and other committees as assigned.
5. Assist Medical and Nursing Directors by reviewing complaints and incident reports related to EMS operations.
6. Serve as liaison with local county, regional, state and federal agencies.
7. Supervise Providence Hospital Paramedic Coordinator for Southfield Fire Department.
8. Serve as liaison and facilitate communications between Providence Hospital and Medical Centers and EMS providers except Southfield Fire Department.
9. Assist EMS agencies except Southfield Fire Department in the procurement of equipment, supplies and services.
10. Prepare annual revenue and expense budgets for EMS Programs Office. Process payroll reports as required.
11. Supervise EMS Instructional Staff. Conduct performance appraisals. Oversee hiring process for staff.
12. Prepare strategic plans and annual goals and objectives for submission to the Medical Director.
13. Oversee function of hospital rerouting network at Providence Emergency Departments.
14. Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
1. Associates degree or equivalent college credit with degree within two years, and/or Bachelors within five years.
2. Minimum of two years teaching experience.
3. Paramedic Certification or RN with Basic EMT certification. Michigan EMS Instructor-Coordinator or certi- fication within six months of hire.
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Minimum of five years of EMS related experience.
2. Undergraduate or graduate degree in Community Health, Education, Business Administration, Public Administration, Biology, or EMS related field.
3. National Registry Certification
4. Experience Coordinating Michigan or Joint Review Committee approved paramedic programs.
