ORYX compliance made easy once
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations’ new ORYX requirement may seem less daunting if you start with a free, one-time hospital-specific clinical performance profile being offered by a California company.
All you need do is ask for the starter kit, but you have to do so before the offer expires on May 31. To comply with the new ORYX initiative, accredited hospitals now have to submit information on at least two indicators to the Joint Commission in Oakbrook Terrace, IL. (See related story on ORYX in Hospital Peer Review, April 1997, p. 41.) Reporting has to be done using an approved performance measurement system. The one being offered for free by Iameter in San Mateo, CA, is on the Joint Commission’s list of 60 accepted systems. The system adjusts for patient severity and includes detailed clinical and financial performance benchmarks. It can report on more than 30 indicators, including rates of anesthetic complication, postoperative wound infection, and nosocomial pneumonia.
