Hospital earnings rising
Acute care hospital profits jumped nearly 24% in 1994 to slightly more than $17 billion, according to data from the American Hospital Association. The data show that hospital revenues increased 4.5% in 1995 to more than $300 billion. Expenses increased 3.6% to about $285 billion. Overall, the trends translated into a 5.6% profit margin for hospitals, up from 4.7% in 1994.
