Proving your worth and your agency's quality
Proving your worth and your agency’s quality
If you haven’t already turned in your agency’s application for the first annual Ernest E. Codman Awards, you can start preparing for next year’s competition for the quality awards because you’ve missed the June 13 deadline.
And if you haven’t even heard of the Ernest E. Codman Awards, don’t fret. The newly created quality awards recognize stellar implementation of outcomes and other performance measures and will be bestowed by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations for the first time this fall.
The awards, which will be presented Nov. 14 in Chicago at the International Congress on Performance Measurement and Improvement in Health Care, will be based on criteria such as:
• Organizationwide commitment and approach to data driven improvement:
leadership involvement;
organizational use of performance measurement;
technical aspects of performance measurement.
• Specific performance measurement and improvement initiative:
planning process;
performance measurement and analysis of data;
performance improvement action;
performance improvement results.
To be considered for the 1998 awards, you will need to submit a detailed application with supporting documentation that spotlights the initiatives that have worked best for you in improving outcomes and overall quality of treatment within your agency.
The application, which requires a modest fee, will be considered by a panel of experts in the home care field. Three finalists will then be chosen to undergo a site review by a special evaluation team. Applications can be requested by contacting the Joint Commission’s Customer Service Center at (630) 792-5800.
