Creating a smooth continuum of education
Creating a smooth continuum of education
A task force composed of representatives from two sister hospitals, St. Joseph’s Hospital and St. Anthony’s Hospital in Tampa, FL, are developing a plan to establish patient education across the continuum of care. The team is examining all steps in the health care process, including the physicians office, pre-admission testing, hospitalization, home health, and community outreach.
The task force hopes to standardize the patient education materials so people do not receive conflicting information. Also, they are trying to organize the education process so people receive the appropriate teaching materials at each step in their health care.
"We see this as a marketing tool for presenting ourselves as a very patient education focused organization to managed health care contractors. They look for these traits in an organization when determining whether or not they want a hospital to care for their members," says Rose Mary Keller, MSN, PhD, an education specialist at St. Joseph’s.
