Four Tips for Improving Your Information System
Four Tips for Improving Your Information System
1. Consider open-architecture systems. Try to avoid highly proprietary systems or ones that use arcane programming languages.
Try to ensure that you can maintain your system if your vendor goes out of business, and if you switch to a new system in a few years you can transfer your data to the new system.
2. Focus on your most important immediate needs. Probably the most important need is to ensure you can adapt your practice style to the system’s style.
3. Try to find a system that will readily permit critical clinical information to be shared electronically.
4. Make sure your system is compatible with the information systems in your IPA or medical group.
