NCQA issues HEDIS auditing standards
To help ensure the integrity and comparability of Health Plan Employer Data Information Set (HEDIS) information collected by health plans, the National Committee for Quality Assurance in Washington, DC, has issued standards for auditing data.
While employers and other health care purchasers often request HEDIS data that is audited by an independent organization, "there has not been a standardized methodology for performing those audits," says NCQA spokesman Barry Scholl.
NCQA also is developing a certification program for individuals who perform the audits, Scholl says. Under the program, the NCQA would license organizations to perform the audits, as well as certifying individual auditors, he says.
