Ensure professional staff presentations
Ensure professional staff presentations
At Pikes Peak Hospice, staff are encouraged to create presentations for national and regional hospice conferences. If they are accepted as presenters, the hospice picks up their expenses for meals, traveling, and lodging. It is a policy that gives staff an opportunity for professional recognition and the hospice good exposure. Therefore, it is important that the staff member present well, says Linda Glick, MEd, LPC, director of supportive services at the hospice in Colorado Springs, CO.To ensure that the presentation goes well, experienced presenters critique the presentation several times during the organizational process. "We want them to feel comfortable, and we also want our agency to present well. A good presentation shows staff that what they are doing is important to other people, not just our agency. We like to think we are on the cutting edge of some of the things hospices in the country are doing, and we want to share, says Glick.
Before the abstract on the presentation is sent to the organization that is sponsoring the conference, people at the hospice with experience submitting presentation abstracts review the copy and make suggestions to increase the chances of acceptance.
