HFMA offers help in billing probe
The Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has developed an aid to help hospitals comply with settlement agreements stemming from U.S. Department of Justice double-billing investigations.
The "DRG Watch" program includes a three-hour video explaining the probes, a workbook with reference materials for use in training, a subscription to a series of audio teleconferences covering the latest developments, and free written advice from HFMA on specific compliance questions.
The Justice Department launched its nationwide investigation last year, and hospitals are being forced to repay overbillings, or in some instances face severe penalties.
Lower fines are possible if a hospital accepts a settlement agreement, but it must also comply with other requirements worked out in a settlement between the Justice Department and hospital associations.
The "DRG Watch" program is available for $495. To order, contact the HFMA at: Two Westbrook Corporate Center, Suite 700, Westchester, IL 60154-5700. Telephone: (708) 531-9600.
