Hospital profits increase 24%
Times may be hard in hospitals, but apparently, they are still profitable. Profits at acute care hospitals in 1995 were up 24% over 1994, according to data from the American Hospital Association (AHA).
The AHA’s Hospital Statistics: Emerging Trends in Hospitals reports that profits totaled $17 billion in 1995, compared to $13.8 billion the previous year. Revenues in 1995 increased 4.5% vs. a 1994 increase of 4.2%, while expenses increased 3.6% in 1995 to about $285.6 billion, the same increase as in 1994.
