Credit cards help cover medical costs
With a stated goal of helping workers "remain healthy, productive employees," HealthCare Credit Inc. (HCC) of Westlake Village, CA, has begun marketing a credit card program that allows companies to supplement their benefit programs and offer emergency medical coverage to those without health benefits even part-time workers. The Visa and MasterCard credit cards can be used for all forms of health care, many of which are excluded from medical insurance benefits plans, including eye exams and glasses, chiropractic appointments, and even health appliances, as well as emergency room visits, prescriptions, and dental care.
As with any other credit card, participating employees must apply for a credit limit with the underwriting bank in this case Pullman Bank and Trust of Chicago, explains Glen Uslan, HCC’s vice president of marketing. "However," he adds, "If the employee cannot qualify for credit, we will fund a secured credit card for them." In exchange, he says, HCC charges 19.8% interest.
