HFMA compliance videos aimed at fraud, abuse
In response to the government’s continuing crackdown on fraud and abuse in the health care industry, the Healthcare Financial Manage-ment Association (HFMA) is offering a series of videos on compliance issues.
The series includes topics that were covered at HFMA’s sold-out September 1997 conference on "Corporate Compliance and the Healthcare Financial Manager’s Role," with presentations by federal Health and Human Services Inspector General June Gibbs Brown, representatives from the Department of Justice, the Health Care Financing Administration, and others.
"In the event of a government investigation, health care professionals, their organizations, and staff could be held liable for their organization’s lack of a comprehensive corporate compliance plan," HFMA president and chief executive officer Richard L. Clarke, FHFMA, said in a statement introducing the series.
"The HFMA video series is a collection of the who, what, when, where, why, and how of compliance straight from the mouths of the inspector general and nationally known experts," Clarke says.
Issues covered include fraud and abuse initiatives, the responsibilities and liabilities of health care professionals, how to implement an effective corporate compliance plan, and where to go for guidance and what to do when billing errors are discovered.
The series of five videos is $295 for HFMA members and $395 for non-members.
Other HFMA compliance-related offerings include periodic audio-teleconferences and "HFMA Compliance Watch" an annual subscription service that compiles articles written for the financial manager’s perspective and government documents regarding compliance issues that may affect the financial manager.
