Code of practice urged for UK organizations
The Labour government in the United Kingdom recently published a voluntary code of practice for organizations that offer human genetic testing services to the public.
An advisory committee on genetic testing was established to monitor genetic testing services, says Tessa Jowell, public health minister for the government. Currently, the committee is completing research on adult-onset genetic disorders and will include issues surrounding pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, Jowell says.
A nonstatutory body, the committee includes consumers, industry representatives, clinicians, and researchers. It will publish an annual report listing testing service proposals that comply with its code and those that do not. An additional section will include services still under review. t
