AHA to offer ethics help
AHA to offer ethics help
There’s a new program for hospital ethics committee leaders to help develop a customized ethics plan for their organization. The program is sponsored by the Chicago-based American Hospital Association (AHA).
The Organizational Ethics Program is part of an AHA effort to help hospitals deal with changes in the health care delivery system, including informed consent, end-of-life care, and advance directives. Attendees at the three-day session develop a formal plan of action for their organization to meet current ethical standards from accrediting organizations, such as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
Participants make a two-year commitment during which they will have follow-up meetings with AHA and other organizations in the program for support and feedback with the development and implementation process. The first available program will be a three-day session in Washington, DC, March 10-12. The cost is $10,000.
[Editor’s note: For more on the Organizational Ethics Program, contact the American Hospital Association, One North Franklin, Chicago, IL 60606. Telephone: (312) 422-2776. Or visit the association’s World Wide Web site: www.aha.org.] t
