Home care group sues HCFA
From the better late than never department, we suppose . . .The Home Care Association of America (HCAA) filed suit in February to stop the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) from implementing the surety bond regulations and to halt implementation of the newly released Medicare cost limits, according to recent news reports. But the surety bond issue has already been addressed by HCFA in a letter to Congress saying the Feb. 27 deadline for obtaining bonds would be extended to enable HCFA to make "technical revision." (See story in this issue of Hospital Home Health, p. 35.) The HCAA says the costs of acquiring surety bonds is prohibitive for most agencies and that fewer than 10 of the nation’s more than 9,000 freestanding agencies had been able to do so.
