Quality commission ceases operations
The Medical Quality Commission in Seal Beach, CA, which accredited medical groups and independent practice associations and conducted outcomes research and educational programs, shut down its operations as of March 31 due to a lack of funding.
Educational and research grants had declined while demand for accreditation failed to grow, and the commission was unable to find new sources of funding, according to a commission statement. Recently, The Medical Quality Commission had worked with the Pacific Business Group on Health in San Francisco to conduct and disseminate results of the Physician Value Check Survey of medical group patients.
Commission staff and board members are continuing to search for other sources of funding or partnerships to continue the commission's work.
