Guides help patients self-triage doctors' visits
Several studies on the HealthyLife Self-Care Guides produced by the American Institute for Preventive Medicine in Farmington Hills, MI, have demonstrated cost savings. In one study, the frequency of physician and emergency department visits decreased, resulting in a six-month savings of $67 per patient. In addition, surveys found that 91% of the people who used the guides had a better understanding of when to see their physicians.
The guides target specific population groups including families, seniors, women, children, and pregnant women. There are two versions. A comprehensive booklet is available, or health care facilities can purchase a multi-fold, brochure version that can easily be placed in a purse or the glove compartment of a car.
A series of self-care products complement the booklet. They include:
· self-care software for intranet and Internet use;
· self-care workshops in video, audio, and instructor guide formats;
· a 24-hour nurse advice line;
· software to set up a nurse triage call center.
The HealthyLife Self-Care Guides cost $4.95 each, and the HealthyLife Infofolds cost $3.25 for a laminated version and $2.50 for non-laminated copies. Discount rates are available for orders in quantities more than 10. Shipping charges are based on weight, and customers are asked to call the company to obtain the amount at the time of purchase.
