Hospitals avoid fines for deficiencies when nurses are updated on the CMS nursing chapter.

Proposed Changes to CMS Nursing CoPs

By Dana Spector, Editor, Relias Learning

Nursing CoPs have gone through many changes in the past few years, and there are more proposed changes scheduled for 2017. It is crucial that all nurses are trained on the CMS nursing chapter so hospitals won’t get fined for deficiencies. On April 20, AHC Media will host a live webinar, “2017 Proposed Changes to CMS Nursing CoPs," with Sue Dill Calloway, RN, MSN, JD.

Calloway, a medical-legal expert, will highlight all of the changes in the nursing chapter and reference important sections found outside of nursing services that nurses should know. Additionally, she will cover the latest changes to the CMS's nursing chapter, including: IV medication administration, blood transfusion, safe opioid standards, safe injection practices, compounding, and beyond use date. Other changes include timing of medications, standing orders, restraint reporting, plan of care, verbal orders, QAPI final worksheets, discharge planning, and infection control.
