SPECIAL UPDATE

The Long-awaited ICD-10 Arrives. Now What?

By Dana Spector, AHC Media Associate Managing Editor

Yesterday the deadline to implement ICD-10 finally arrived. CMS posted new resource guide and contact list. A blog post by Sean Cavanaugh, Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Medicare says that “The change to ICD-10 allows you to capture more details about the health status of your patients and sets the stage for improved patient care and public health surveillance across our country. ICD-10 will help move the nation’s health care system to better, smarter care.”

Find a worksheet for "Provider Contacts for Medicare and Medicaid Questions" and more at cms.gov.

We also reported on this topic in our August 2015 issue of ED Management. Here's a link to the article "The next big challenge for EPs: The transition to ICD-10-CM coding system". Another AHC Media publication, Hospital Peer Review also discusses ICD-10 in the article "Stop the Racket".
