• CompuServe (Columbus, OH), a subsidiary of America Online, has formed a partnership with WebMD (Atlanta) to deliver best-of-breed dial-up access, content and services to physicians and other healthcare professions, plus other services to CompuServe members. CompuServe will become the primary Internet service offered to WebMD subscribers, and for a limited time, the service will be offer ed by WebMD at a special introductory price. Also under the agreement, WebMD will become an anchor tenant on CompuServe’s Health Channel. WebMD provides a web-based solution for the administrative, communications and information needs for healthcare professionals and consumers.
• International Marketing Ventures (IMV; Greenbelt, MD) has completed its purchase of Technology Marketing Group (TMG), which will become one of the IMV group of companies. The combination creates a range of specialized Information services for the analytical, life science and medical markets, both domestically and abroad. TMG specializes in medical imaging, cardiology and therapy markets. TMG’s specialty is in medical imaging and therapy. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
• Mutual of Omaha (Omaha, NE), a provider of individual health and accident insurance, said it will collaborate with InsWeb (Redwood City, CA), a leading insurance marketplace, to offer individual health insurance products at the www.insweb.com web site. Using InsWeb, consumers in 36 states and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to obtain quotes and select coverage from Mutual of Omaha’s traditional and PPO products.
• Superior Consultant Holdings (Southfield, MI) and its wholly owned subsidiary, Superior Consultant Co., have purchased the Integration Services Group (ISG) of Healthdyne Information Enterprises (HIE; Marietta, GA) for $2.2 million in cash. While a part of HIE, ISG offered healthcare-related integration consulting services and served several large integrated delivery networks, such as Promina Health Systems (Atlanta) and BJC Health Systems (St. Louis). Under the terms of the agreement, Superior will be granted rights to incorporate HIE’s Criterion Tool Suite into its data warehousing portfolio of solutions. The Criterion Tool Suite is an enabling technology that allows healthcare enterprises to build and deploy a data warehouse incrementally. In other company news, Superior Consultant and Eisenhower Medical Center (EMC; Palm Springs, CA), have signed a five-year Information Systems Outsourcing Agreement valued at approximately $20 million. Superior will assume responsibility for information systems management and leadership in the areas of planning and strategy; financial management; applications support; computer operations; PC and desktop support; network management; help desk; and project services. EMC is a healthcare complex comprised of the hospital, the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences, the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, and the Betty Ford Center.
• Pacific Medical Group (Carson City, NV), a developer of disposable bathing systems and products to reduce skin contamination, has partnered with ww.iChargeit.com to begin e-commerce operations on that company’s web site.
