EC hotline and web site now managed by ARHP
The Washington, DC-based Association of Reproductive Health Professionals (ARHP) is now the official managing organization for the Emergency Contraception (EC) Hotline [(888) NOT-2-LATE] and web site, www.NOT-2-LATE.com.
ARHP is working with Princeton (NJ) University’s Office of Population Research (OPR) to link women and their partners with health care professionals to EC services and information. EC Hotline callers are given contact information for up to five nearby health care providers who prescribe EC. Web site visitors receive referral information, downloadable education materials, and a thorough list of EC resources.
"The EC hotline is an anonymous and private way for women to get the information they need to prevent unintended pregnancy," says James Trussell, PhD, professor of economics and public affairs, faculty associate of the OPR, and associate dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. "ARHP’s experience, expertise, and educational mission make it the perfect organization to manage these essential services."
The hotline and web site were launched in 1996 by the Washington, DC-based Reproductive Health Technologies Project (RHTP) in conjunction with the OPR. RHTP, a national health advocacy organization, continues to develop new projects in the area of EC and other reproductive health technologies.
ARHP became the hotline and web site’s official managing organization as of Jan. 1, 2002, with the OPR continuing to operate the provider database. EC hotline and web site activities in 2002 have been made possible by unrestricted educational grants from the Menlo Park, CA-based William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the New York City-based Open Society Institute’s Program on Reproductive Health and Rights, and by individual donations from EC providers and clinics.
ARHP also sponsors the Emergency Contraception: Train the Trainer teaching curriculum, which has reached more than 10,000 health care providers in the United States and overseas. The program, which was thoroughly updated in September 2001, can be accessed free of charge on ARHP’s web site at www.arhp.org/ec/.
