OIG: beneficiary awareness of Medicare fraud improving
The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Inspector General (OIG) reported late last month that Medicare beneficiary awareness of fraud continues to grow.
According to the OIG, beneficiaries are more knowledgeable about Medicare fraud, and they are significantly more likely to receive information about fraud than they were three years ago.
They also are reporting suspected fraud using an approach consistent with the three-step process outlined in the "Who Pays? You Pay" campaign, which directs them to first contact their health care provider, then their Medicare insurance company, and finally the OIG hotline.
