HOPD payments to increase 3.8%
In a final payment rule for hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) predicts that HOPD payment would increase by 3.8%, considering market basket update and other factors.
Additionally, hospitals will be required to report seven quality measures to receive the full market basket update in calendar year 2009, including "timing of antibiotic prophylaxis and "selection of prophylactic antibiotic — first- or second-generation cephalosporin. Also, several services, including intraoperative services, will be incorporated into the payment for the main procedure.
The final rule was published in the Nov. 27 Federal Register.
